25nm sail to Tobego Cays – 21 july

so today we only had 25nm to go to the tobego cays so we where not too concerned we had to wait until 9am to get the propane. it turns out the reason it takes overnight and the reason it is so expensive is they gravity feed the propane from larger jugs. this is what we did in las palamas not the safest or quickest but gets the job done!

this delay gave jen and siets a good head start. we also decided to add a few extra “stops” to keep things interesting. we tried to stop off at this little santa Barbara looking island for lunch but as we got close there where just too many birds every where and it was also quite rolly.

we continued down on the west side of the grenadines with very nice wind off the beam. all this allowed waka irie to finally get out in front and get anchored before we where even at our next stop which was salt whistle bay in Mayreu. this was a neat little bay, not very protected where we where anchored and pretty deserted. we walked around the bay and found 3 or 4 little beach bars none with any customers and all with a few locals sprawled out napping in the shade. the where all “open” but for 5 EC per beer we decided to enjoy cold coors light on palapa!

we continued up to jamsbey island to join up with siets and jen. it looked like there was a nice barrier reef so we expected a flat anchorage overlooking the ocean like we had in cuelabra. alas we where very disappointed. it was quite rolley and there where a ton of charter boats about. we finally got situated right off this very nice little beach but only after two tries at anchoring.

after a swim i headed over to waka iere for a beer as aimee needed a night off from socializing. the beer turned into a 2 hour conch event. see the special “conch” update shortly.

cheers, roger

  1. Coors Light? is it at a premium down there? I was drinking coors light on sv Stealth Chicken last weekend on a Catalina trip, first time back since getting married there in 2005. Missing the “cruising”!!

BTW – gotta drink a lot of coors light to catch a buzz!
