we left early for barbuda as it was a 30nm sail and i wanted to make sure we got to sail even if it meant going 4 kits in very light winds we have been seeing. alas after the first hour we had 10 to 15 kts n the beem in flat sees and where blasting along at 7.5 kts.
aimee of course got the lines out and of course in quick succession we had 3 hits. the first was a beautiful Dorado but under 2 feet so i released it. no sooner had it hit the water than we got another tuna. this guys was a keeper and we tried some new techniques to improve the meat quality. this included stabing him in the brain, i swear the guy does not use his brain as i stabbed everywhere and he was still going. the next step was putting him in ice water. of course about this time we discovered we had another tuna on the remaining line.
fortunately this guy was only 2 feet so i threw him back as well. aimee was ecstatic and i was exhausted, i swear brining fish in is the most stressful thing i do on palapa! we put the tuna in the bear fridge for later dressing as we where still doing 7.5 kts.
barbuda was even more amazing than we remembered it, with perfect water and an endless white sand beach. while aimee worked on the fish below i enjoyed the scenery. eventually i was rewarded by a delicious plate of sashimi. apparently the new fish techniques where a good call as the sushi was amazing.
after a photo shoot around palapa for more charter photos and cocktail hour at the stern step we had a tuna pokey with avocado topping on wasabi and sesame crackers. another day in paradise!
cheers

there’s the fish! awesome! I totally miss that freshly caught sashimi, nothing compares. BTW – I don’t know about the Caribbean but on the Pacific side the #1 lure I found was just a simple 6″ cedar plug, caught everything on it from Tuna to Dorado and even a Wahoo. Out-fished everything else in my tackle box.
Also, if you don’t mind wasting a bit of alcohol, the quickest and most efficient way to kill a fish is pouring hard alcohol in his gills, suffocates them immediately.
BTW – looked up that fish, it is a little tunny. You have to bleed them immediately so they don’t taste fishy so forget the alcohol on this species, just cut its head off right when you get it in! and try not to make a mess of your boat! Also, cut out the dark lines (blood lines) as they also make it taste fishy.
