not having the head to work on allowed me to focus most of my energy on building a new cockpit table to house the new engel freezer.
for as long as i can remember i have dreamed of being able to flip up the table and pull cold beers and ice out of the cockpit table. but as i had always feared this is easier said than done.
first i removed the table from the cockpit and put it on the dock. this caused aimee a bit of angst as i dont think she really believed i was going to undertake (or finish this project)
then i began cardboard mockups to make sure my concept worked (the initial ones did not). i also had to figure a way to hold the freezer to the table base securely. once i had the basic concept and dimensions i needed a trip to home depot to get material.
aimee had scoped out the town on her bike and took us to the local bus stop to get in this 1$ open truck thing with bench seats. after about an hour in home depot i had most of the parts and we began our trek home. fortunately as we walked along the road with lumber and parts under our amrm a taxi stopped and offered us a ride back to the marina for only 10$, well worth it!
after 2 days of careful cutting and drilling and screwing the mock up was complete. i actually like the wooden mock up enough to declare victory but aimee thinks it should all be one color 🙂 i am still torn between having someone make a fiberglass version of the top with perhaps a lexan lid or having a teak version of the table with teak side panels.
any opinions? also i am wondering if i can just paint the wood with some sort of white epoxy. any ideas on this? any idea where you get teak?
cheers
