the nany cay bvi boat show – 7 to 10 nov 2013

this boat show was even more of a wirr than the last. probably because we coupled meeting all these new friends with our existing nanny cay friends. we had tom and don stop by for happy hour almost every day. we had to kick them off a few times as they where not wearing proper boat show attire (ie shirt). tom had car issues so in addition to scott in the salon we had tom a few nights as well. in spite of this scott and i where up at dawn every morning polishing palapa up so by 8am we where ready to show.

seth and jaimee came over one night on their new 60 hp center console skiff one night as well for margaritas and bacon wrapped shrimp. we had to finally cancel the margaritas for the last to nights of the show but this did not stop the regulars from arriving at happy hour everyday.

aimee got many more complements on her cooking and we routinely had people ask if palapa was new. pretty amazing given she has sailed almost all the way around the world. we got more than 50 cards so someone will be busy following up after the show. will be interesting to see if all this pr results in actual bookings.

we where hoping to win second best monohull (you can only win best if you are part of the bvi charter association). alas our friends next door on a brand new jenaue 55 lori b won this. it is an amazing looking boat especially the interior. thanks to quick thinking we did win an award. best/most business cards dropped into the pot for a drawing. like i always say if you aren’t cheating you are not trying! the good news is no one could hear the pa so everyone assumed we had won best boat.

at the very end our broker came by and asked if we could take some brokers for a day sail the next day. my response was “you have to be kidding, after two back to bak shows 4 broker lunches, not going to happen”. she went on to corner another poor couple.

the whole boat show thing has been a ton of work a ton of fun and we have met a ton of fun people. so should make for any even busier season here even without charters!

cheers
roger
