so last night was hell. we woke up at midnight or so covered with mosi bites. i turned on the light and i could see tons of mosis flying around the cabin we had all the screens in but apparently these buggers are small enough to get in. we closed all the hatches making it even hotter and maxed the fan. i could not sleep so i got the electric fly swatter and started swatting. it was very frustrating i could not seem to hit anyone. then i noticed a pile of 8 carcasses on the bed next to me. i mushed each one individually to make sure they where not stunned and stayed on mosi watch for another hour or so killing a few more after securing the cabin door.
we woke up with the sun exhausted and covered with bug bite. i dont know if we can last a week like this. aimee made us eggs for breakfast and some how we managed to rally. i spent the whole day on blisters and aimee started in on sanding the bootstrip so we could move up the waterline. blisters are my least favorite thing in the world especially on the bottom. i had to hold the grinder over my head with my back bent back getting bottom paint spit all over my face – i did have to get a mask and gogles for us both. aimee ended up covered with bottom paint as well and not super happy. there where several points where we where both almost melted down and gave up but we managed to power on.
for me the worst part was after working all day on the blisters i got an email back from Gerry strongly recommending i take all the paint back 12 inches or so. i tried to do this with the sander but i had no luck at all just too much bottom paint. you can also see i suck at this epoxy thing. the first batch i made had a thermal meltdown and i thought the pot was going to melt. the next batch was better but i was afraid to put too much filler in so it kind off ozzed out of the blisters.
will see if i can do better tomorrow. we did get some advice on the mosis from a local worker he recommended spraying the boat with raid before leaving for dinner, sealing it, and then coming back after dinner. this seemed to work. we had a few dead mosis about when we returned. it will probably take a few years of our lives but nothing compared to no sleep bite fest from last night.
cheers, Roger
