Day 1 on Hard – 7 Aug

today we awoke to hear that today was an official “half day holiday” in honor of the Grenadian woman winning a gold medal in the olympics. of course we where scheduled to come out of the water at 1300 and the half day “off” was the afternoon.

fortunately we had always planned to head around to the yard first thing so we head this announcement as we where heading into prickly bay. after a quick snorkel to refresh my memory on where the prop and keel where in relationship to the “PAPALA” on the side of the boat i headed in.

i got there just as aimee was calling to say we had been moved up to 10am. this was “now” by the time i got to the office. we got into the haul-out dock as quickly as we could as i did not want to loose our place in line. after another 30 minutes of paperwork they where kicking aimee off the boat and lifting us. always a bit scary to watch this!

the snuck us into a spot so tight with this hydraulic lift thing that they actually had to go up on deck and pull in the fenders, double yikes. while aimee went to the store i made sure we had electricity and water a shower key and where all set up before everyone vaporized at noon. it took a bit of time to get the right connectors and find the chore power cable, i cant remember when we where last on shore power!

the bottom looked very good for 4 years. a few scrapes on the keel and the bow from the anchor but in general solid paint everywhere. the only big problem is in the stern where you can see there are blisters as a result of the transom being below the waterline. i should have moved the waterline up across the transom last haul-out. we will see how “bad” the blister thing is soon enough. today we where just happy to be out. tomorrow the boat yard dude is supposed to come by and give us an “estimate” on doing some of the work for us. aimee is all excited about some cool looking stripes on some of the other boats here but i think that will be out of our price range.

  1. I hope you didn’t opt for the stripes… I had a hell of a time getting rid of mine…
