head 101 again! – 27 oct 2013

so this morning was finally d-day and h-hour for the head unclog activity. seth and i had reviewed the options previously and when i [picked him up he had his head unclog kit. two massive throttle cables for reaming out the clog and a bag of disposable rags. initially aimee had declined my offer to leave palapa during the event but fortunately jaimee came by to take her for a hike as we where getting going. as we pulled the first hose off the girls scampered to get into the dingy as the smell wafted out of the bilge.

we went with the seth probram of reeming out the clog from the top town. we did this aggressively for quite a while pulling out globs of grey substance that seemed to be calcification some how dissolved perhaps from the oil or vinegar we put down the head. in any case after much reaming there was still no breakthrough so seth volunteered to go under the boat and poke from the other side. he imediatly reported he could only put the screwdriver in a few inches.

“ahhh” i said that would be because the thrue hull is closed. this illicited an outburst from seth who believed the whole problem was that i had “forgotten” i had closed the thru hull. i had actually done this at the begining before removing the hose as the top is below the waterline.

this created a new problem if we opened the thru hull and then unplugged the the clog seawater would push crap back into the boat and then we would sink without the thru hull closed. so we opened the thru hull seth pushed hose into the outside of the hull and when the clog gave way i collected the hi pressure crap in a bucket until it was full and then put my hand over the hose to prevent sinking. fun fun. seth eventually got toweled off and closed the thru hull

and yes, when he analyzed the crap he confirmed we had a non human produced non tp object, reminiscent of the charlie barr!

the good news was we managed to contain the crap and not get any in the bilge so clean up was not too bad and just as we finished up and opened our beer aimme and jaimee returned. they looked at us like we had just bee sitting around like this all day!

i took the team out for lunch and willy t-s and then seth and i rewarded our selves by doing a harbor cruise from seths fly bridge. amazing view like you are looking down on the world!

we did some bbq chicken on palapa for dinner, was great to be hanging on the palapa with seth and jaimee again just like old times except now we have to side tie their tender too us!

cheers
roger

  1. Roger nice to chat yesterday My main concern with both Lagoon and Leopard is that all the seats are pre-molded. I dont need tables for 10 both inside and out i Would prefer more open space and the ability to buy more fun and comfortable furniture including a computer area seperate from the chart table Any cats you have seen that accomodate more personization? I do like that both have seating areas in front of the windows no one else seems to have jumped on this feature
As for flybridge i do think it is awesome but concerned about being short crewed and communication vs pop up bridge ask seth for me
    Thanks
