So this am we thought we had only a few things to “grab” before leaving, alas this turned out to be harder than expected. the irony of the day was the dude who “saved” palapa needed a ride to shore at 7am for a job. of course i took him and did not ask him to pay me for dingy fuel:)
the plan was to get paint at 8am and then hit the 9am bridge opening. this would have worked well but it took them 20 minutes to figure out they did not have the paint so we aborted and took palapa out and anchored first. i dropped aimee of to get some wine and eggs and headed over for the paint. the total was 950$ for 4 gallons fortunately aimee and i split the cost but we are now way over budget on the boat for june.
by the time we got back to palapa it was time for aimee to do a “quick” work call with one of her life coach clients, from my end it sounded like aimee was coaching her! while aimee did the call i got the boat ready, secured all the rum and wine we had stocked up on 4$ per liter of good dark rum, fixed the autopilot hauled the dingy etc. by the time i was done i was exhausted and needed a swim.
we where finally under way at 1230 on our first “upwind sail”! the plan was to see how high we could point palapa with the genoa reefed to about 90% for the best angle. we where able to do about 40 deg off the apparent wind in about 20 kts of withd with the main reefed to the first spreader. this was pretty good and gave us about 30% of actual track into the wind or 60% off the true wind. so we where able to make a bit of headway.
aimee made us shrimp and guac wraps for lunch and more shrip wraps for dinner. we where too tiered and too loaded up on fish in the freezer to fish. it was great to be back on the water and even though the boat was a bit jerky it was very relaxing and we both caught up on our reading before watching the sunset. i took the first watch until midnight and went to bed just as the moon was coming up!
Cheers Roger
